Lesson Overview:
I believe that within every person lies a gift. There is something unique about you, just waiting to be discovered. You were born with it, but many unfortunately never discover it and can embrace it. Instead, we adhere to social norms, leaving the gift dormant. We follow a path that doesn't belong to us simply because it's what everyone else does. Instead of embracing the unknown, we stick to what feels comfortable. Fear lies in the unknown, so most will not take the most important walk in life you can. A walk into the wilderness.
Les Brown, one of my favorite speakers, said, “The land of familiarity belongs to the dead.” Let that sink in for a moment. Life presents a clear distinction between pursuing your true purpose and fulfilling others' expectations. No one else is in charge of the direction you take but you. So grab the wheel, set a course, and hit the gas. Do not let other people’s fears pollute what you believe you can do. If you can see it and believe it, then it's possible.
Another mentor of mine is Earl Nightingale. His definition of success, which I agree with, is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal. Otherwise known as goals. Those with goals in life that are pursuing are succeeding; those with no goals are not. This is the best definition of success you will ever hear.
The reason this is important is that it provides the fuel for life. The fuel that drives you and gives you the energy to do what it takes. To push yourself and face your fears. To take risks and seek what is required to succeed. What is this fuel? It is purpose. That which fuels motivation.
